World Cup Group D Review

Group D in this year's World Cup is made up of four teams from across the world. They are France, Australia, Denmark and Tunisia. With the current holder France in this group, this could be a highly entertaining group.

France

France has one of the best squads in this competition this year and is one of the favourites to go and win this year’s competition being the current holders. However, they will be hoping for a better performance than in the Euro in 2020 after going out on penalties by Switzerland. Didier Deschamps has been France's coach for ten years now and really has seen it all. This could be his last chance to prove he still has what it takes to go far in this competition, as he has the squad to do it. With Mbappe and Benzema both in the squad, this could be a very exciting team to watch scoring a lot of goals. However, France does like to set up very defensively in international football, so it could make this interesting.

The pitchsiders view is that they will go to the final of this competition but will not win this year's World Cup. In the group, we think they will win all the games and win this group very comfortably.

Australia

Australia is a team that recently has made it to the last few world cups. However, they have not made it past the group stages. There Key player and the captain is the Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan. He is a leader for them, having the experience of the last two world cups. He also has the experience of being in a premier league side, playing with some of the world's best players. Overall, the Australian team look to be a team which any team could lose against, but they won't have the quality to get past France and Australia.

The Pitchsider's view is that Australia will not make it out of this group but will finish third. They have the team to be able to beat Tunisia; however very unlikely to be able to win against Denmark and France, but if either team does slip up, this could work to Australia's benefit.

Denmark

Denmark is a team which could actually be a really good dark horse pick. They have a round team, with their star man being Christian Eriksen returning after his recovery from the Euros. Denmark has three last-16 finishes and one quarter-final finishes in the last four world cups. This leads them to hopefully have success in this competition. They started their World Cup against Tunisia, which could lead to Denmark starting the competition with three points.

The pitchsiders view is that Denmark will finish second in this group with two wins and a loss to France. They will make it to the last 16 they may be able to make it to the quarterfinals with a favourable draw in the last 16. Overall, this could lead to a successful World Cup for them but don’t write them off going further.

Tunisia

Tunisia is a who has a modest history in the world cup. They made a few of the last cups in 1992, 2002, 2006, and 2018. However, they have never made it past the group stage, which they are not likely to make this time either. Their key man is Ellyes Skhiri the cologne midfield was named the Tunisian football of the year in 2021 and can be the real heartbeat of this team. Their first game will be against demark, and they will be able to show what they are made of, and we can see what they can really do in this competition.

The Pitchsider View is that Tunisia will finish bottom of the group and will not be able to process in this competition and will likely push Australia to the bottom of the group. If they can get a few shock victories, this will really push them to maybe get out of this group.

Conclusion

Overall, this group is very easy to predict this group as France will top this group and demark are very likely to finish second in this group. Australia and Tunisia are likely not to be that entertaining to watch but will be fighting for the bottom of the group.
